Polk City, founded in 1925 by developer Isaac Van Horn during Florida’s land boom, was built around key structures like the Van Horn Building. The Great Depression stalled growth, but the town revived after World War II. Surrounded by lakes and green space, it became a hub for outdoor recreation and was officially incorporated as a city in 2005.
